How to use the countdown

  1. Find your show in the table. The number of days updates every day.
  2. Tap Make a timer on tick.to beside it to open a countdown with the title and date already filled in.
  3. Sign in on tick.to if you want to save it, keep a permanent link or embed it, then share the link with the people you are going with.
  4. Add the date to your calendar with the calendar file.

How it works

The counter compares today's date on your device with the show date and counts the whole calendar days in between. It has no hours, minutes or seconds, because start times are not published for every venue, and a day-level count does not go out of date if a start time is announced later. Without JavaScript the table simply shows the date of each event.

The tick.to buttons use a plain-English link: the sentence for each show is passed to the service, which works out what, when and where. Where the venue has published a doors time the sentence includes it and the place, for example "Hannah Fry doors in Manchester at 6:30pm on 21 October 2027", so the timer counts to doors in UK time. Where no time is published the timer counts to the day. We do not send anything about you; the link only contains the sentence. tick.to is a separate service with its own terms and privacy policy.

Plan backwards from the show

A countdown is more useful when it points to things you need to do. Working backwards from your date:

  • Now: check the ticket guide and buy from an official seller.
  • A few months out: book a refundable hotel for the night, especially in popular cities such as Edinburgh and Bath.
  • Around 12 weeks out: rail operators usually release advance fares some weeks ahead of travel, so check National Rail to see when your date opens.
  • The week before: confirm doors times, bag and cloakroom rules on the venue's page and plan your journey with the show night planner.
  • On the day: download your tickets to your phone, check the travel disruption pages, and leave early.

Worked examples

Counting to the opening night

If today is 28 June 2027, the Birmingham opener on 28 September 2027 is 92 days away. The counter shows "92 days to go", and tomorrow it shows 91.

On the day itself

On the date of the show the counter reads "Tonight". After the date has passed it reads "Show has taken place".

Sharing with a group

You are going to London on 30 October 2027 with three friends. Tap the tick.to link beside that date, sign in, save the timer and send the link to the group chat, so everyone sees the same countdown.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Check you are counting to the right night for two-night venues.
  • Do not rely on a countdown for travel timing: use the planner and live journey information instead.
  • Keep your ticket confirmation email, not just the countdown.
  • If the date changes, the seller will email you, so keep your contact details current.

Who this is for

  • People who have bought tickets and want to share the excitement.
  • Gift givers who want a countdown to go with a ticket present.
  • Readers waiting for the new book on 16 September 2027.

Questions about this tool

How many days until Hannah Fry's tour starts?

The Come Fry With Me tour opens at Symphony Hall, Birmingham on 28 September 2027. The live counter on this page shows the number of calendar days remaining from today's date in your browser.

How is the countdown calculated?

It counts calendar days from today's date on your device to the show date, so the number changes at midnight. Show start times are not published for every venue, so the counter does not count hours.

What is tick.to?

tick.to is a free service for making shareable countdown timers from a plain-English sentence. The buttons here open it with the sentence already filled in for that show.

Do I need an account to use tick.to?

Opening the prefilled link and previewing the timer needs no account. Saving a timer, getting a permanent link or embedding it on a page requires signing in on tick.to, and your first timer is free there.

Will the countdown work in my time zone?

Yes. The counter on this page uses the date on your device. tick.to timers use your own time zone when you view them, so the day changes at your local midnight.

Can I add the show to my calendar as well?

Yes. Download the calendar file with every date from /calendar.ics and import it into your calendar app, or use the show night planner to save a leave-by reminder.
