Seating at Edinburgh Playhouse for Hannah Fry
Edinburgh Playhouse does not publish a seat count. It has seats on 3 levels: Stalls, Circle and Balcony. You pick your seat on the seller's seating plan when you book, so the plan you see there is the one that counts for 7–8 Oct 2027.
The venue's own seating plan shows the full layout.
What the venue says about its seats
- The Playhouse calls itself the UK's largest all-seated theatre, but does not publish a seat count.
- There is no lift. The Circle is at street level with a level route from the entrance, and Circle row M needs only one step.
- The Stalls are about 40 steps (four flights) down from the street. The Balcony is 25 steps (two flights) up, with handrails on the stairs but not at the seats.
- There is also a Director's Box, up 6 steps, and Circle slip seats.
- The step-free wheelchair spaces are on a slight incline.
- The venue does not mention restricted view seats.
Access seating
Wheelchair spaces: Eight step-free wheelchair positions in Circle Row M (seats 13–16 and 37–38), plus two transfer seats (39–40). Companion tickets: Essential companion ticket available; contact access team. Book access seats through the venue rather than a general seller page. Details are in the accessibility guide for Edinburgh Playhouse.
Choosing a seat
- Look for "restricted view" or "partial view" labels on the plan. Sellers price these lower because a pillar, rail or overhang blocks part of the stage.
- For a show built around one person on stage, a clear view and good sound matter more than being close. A central seat further back can beat a side seat near the front.
- Upper levels in older theatres can be steep. If you dislike heights or stairs, choose a lower level or ask the venue about lifts.
- If you are booking for two nights or a group, check the per-order limit before you choose. See how to buy tickets.
